Concerns have been expressed
about the possible adverse effect of lead on health and the
environment. In view of the above, following recommendation /
actions have been in
- With an increasing concern to protect Environment, the
producer members of European association TEPPFA have
discontinued the use of lead stabilizers in potable water pipe
since 2005.
- The European Stabilizer Producers Association and European
Plastic Converters pledged 50% reduction in use of Lead
Stabilizers by 2010 and complete phase out by 2015.
- The European chemicals regulation, REACH (Registration,
Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) will also restrict
the use of Lead based systems which are expected to be phased
out in the EU latest by 2010-2012.
Moreover, European PVC heat stabilizer manufacturers have made
a voluntary commitment called
"VINYL 2010" to
reduce use of lead
stabilizers by 50% by 2010 and become
completely
lead free by 2015.
